About MTM
The Masters in Translational Medicine (MTM) program is designed for students who want to make a real-world impact in healthcare by bringing medical innovations from concept to clinical use. Whether your interest lies in early-stage research, product design, regulatory strategy, or deployment in hospitals and homes, the MTM program equips you with the knowledge and skills to bridge the gap between engineering, clinical needs, and business.
The MTM program is a cross-campus collaboration between the Department of Bioengineering at UC Berkeley and the Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences at UCSF. Students are enrolled in both universities, and draw on the range of expertise and technological resources available at the two institutions. From cutting-edge labs to entrepreneurial ecosystems, students work on interdisciplinary teams that address pressing medical challenges. Our curriculum emphasizes hands-on experience through a year-long capstone project, where students collaborate with industry sponsors to develop real biomedical technologies.
In addition to these two core departments, students join in aspects of the leadership training offered by the Fung Institute for Engineering Leadership at UC Berkeley.
